When Russia offered Alaska to the US,everyone thought that it was a bad idea. Everone thought that it was just a big piece of ice. Some people went to Alaska to mine for gold. When they arrived, Alaska turned out to be very, very beneficial. It had gorgeous grasslands and really great resources such as fish, minerals, animals, and fantastic lumber. The resources turned out to be worth more than its gold.
Soon after Alaska became our 49th state.

Do you know how life was on a battlefield? Many people were eager for war,but they didn't know how bad the fighting was,or how long it would last.During the war, soldiers fought in narrow ditches called trenches. They found protection in the trenches, and fired there weapons from there.

During the four years of fighting, millions of soldiers were killed. The trenches were no place for a human being to be, soldiers pretty much lived in trenches. There was mud, cold weather, and nasty rats in trenches.

Theodore Rosevelt really helped improve the United States of America. He formed the Rough Riders and won the Spanish-American war.Rosevelt signed the Pure Food and Drug Act. In addition to the Pure Food and Drug Act, Theodore orginized the Panama Canal. He even visited Panama to see how the canal was doing. With out him, food would not be safe to eat, Cuba would be ruled by Spain, and the trip to California would take a long time and be very expensive

World war 1 changed the U.S.A in good and bad ways. The biggest thing that chenged was the Treaty Of Verailles, that was made after the war ended The treaty included the Leauge of Nations. which stated that all natiions solve their promblems peacefully. But the U.S senate rufused, so we did not sign the treaty. Next, because men where in the war, women and african americans took jobs. They got respect, and in 1920, women could finally vote. Also because goods were being sent to the war, civilans had to ration goods. Latly, many new weapons were made. These these included grenades, cannon shells, submarines, the tank, and much more. The U.S was changed, very changed.

Alaska was such a good purchase because it had minerals, fish, huge forests, and gold. Previously, people thought it was a horrible purchase because they thought it was just a huge peice of ice, but later when peolpe explored it, we decided to buy it. The americans that thought it was dumb called it Sewards Folly.

Russia sold it to America in 1867. In 1896, miners dicovered gold in the region. Thousands of Americans traveled there hoping to get rich. No one got rich but people dicovered minerals and forests. In 1912 Alaska became a US territory. In 1959 USA aquired Alaska. It became the 49th state.
