The Great Depression was hard on farmers in the south and great plains. They had to sharecrop with southern farmers. A severe droght went over the great plains, and turned the soil into dust. There were not many plants to hold the soil down, and the soil wen't up in dark clouds. This period of time was called the dust bowl. People ran for shelter as the big cloud of dust swallowed their house. A lot of people moved to california hoping for a better life.

    3. What types of programs made up the New Deal? What effects did these programs have on people and the economy of the United States?

Well, there were many different New Deal programs. One of those is The Social Sucerity Act, which provided money to people over the age of 65 and poeple with disabilitys. Another program was the CCC, or the Civillian Conservation Corps. Their goal was to create jobs and restore natural environment.

There is also the TVA, The Tennessee Vally Athority. People working there built dams along the Tennessee River. That created hydroelectricity, that gave many people power.
The last of many programs was the WPA, or Works Progress Administration. They hired people to build streets, parks, libraries, and schools. Also, it paid artists to paint and authors to write.

The New Deal helped thousands of suffering poeple to earn money. It gave many poeple hope for the end of the deppression.

Herbert Hoover thought the government should stay out of the great depression because it can improve on it's own, but he thought wrong. Hoover didn't help at all during the great depression. He thought the bank should loan people money. Thoough when he did that, the bank crashed and the government couldn't give money back because Hoover said the government should stay out of it.

Roosevelts thoughts actually helped save the people in the depression. Roosevelt believed the government should help with money and banks. When Roosevelt ran for president he promised his new deal. The new deal was a group of programs that helped people in need. Such as: CCC, TVA, PWA, SSA, and the WPA. This gave all people that need anything very helpful. Roosevelt was a very good preident.

Life was very hard for farmers in the South and in the West. Farmers in the South (Tenant Farmers)paid rent to land owners so they can live and farm on the owners land. Tenant Farmers had little money, so they couldn't pay rent. Then they had to leave because they couldn't afford it.
In the West, there was a drought that turned the soil to dust. The soil was lifted off the ground by terrible winds and sand storms.(It was also known as "The Black Blizzard")With all the dust, the crops couldn't grow. This period was called the Great Dust Bowl. So farmers had to move to California for better jobs. This is how the farmers got affected in the West and in the South.

Herbert Hoover believed that the Federal Government should not play a big role in the economy. He thought the economy would fix itself on it's own. Franklin D Roosevelt thought the opposite of Hoover. He believed that the Federal Government should be involved to stop the Great Depression. FDR set up many programs called the new deal. Some involved giving food and shelter to the people in need. The new deal also gave people their job back by building dams on the Tennessee River. Planting trees and fixing up national parks. FDR and Herbert hoover believed in two very different ways for the ecomomy to grow. that concludes our paragraph on FDR and Herbert Hoover.

There are many regulations for the New Deal Program.
First of all there is Social Security. The Social Security Program was made in 1935. The Social Security provides money to people over the age of 65 or to people with disabilites and cannont work.
Another important program was the civilian Conservation program, or the ccc. Its job was to create jobs for people and to protect the environment. The ccc planted trees, cleared hiking trails, and did other projects.
Another project was the tva, or the Tennesse Valley Authority. It built dams on the tennesse river to create Hydorelectricity and it prevented floods. The last program was the wpa, or the works Progress Administration. It hired people to build streets, parks , libraries , and schools.
All of the programs made jobs and helped our lives together.
